Humans of Aggie Medicine

Iqra Qureshi

“Someone once asked, ‘What if you go scribing or shadowing and you don’t like it? Does that mean medicine isn’t right for you?’ And the answer to that is no. There are things about medicine, even if it’s right for someone, that no one likes. Like charting or paperwork. Even doctors have their parts of medicine that they don’t like… But if you go in that environment and can envision yourself as the doctor then that means this field is right for you. No matter how much someone loves their job, there are parts of it that they don’t like. I see ID as a necessary evil…

The first time I observed a pap smear, I didn’t know what it was. The doctor asked me if I wanted to observe a pap smear and I was like sure! I didn’t know what I had signed up for. Afterwards, the doctor was like, ‘Do you want me to do one on you?’

I was like ‘NO THANKS’”
